Vintage Skyline house owners rejoice—you will pop your motor while not breaking the bank.

Nissan's renowned Godzilla is aging. Mile when mile, delayed oil changes and constant causation it have begun to require its toll on the legendary GT-R's heart, going the notorious RB26DETT engine with scarred cylinder walls and gouged bearing journals. The engineers at Jewish calendar month have caught wind that enthusiasts still get pleasure from the previous platform and have additional a embarrassment of elements to the NISMO Heritage catalog, as well as new castings for the engine's head and 2 totally different blocks.

Before you get too excited, note that Jewish calendar month is not commercialism you a completely useful engine. Instead, they are commercialism new castings for engine builders wanting to start out contemporary with a spanking new block or head. Prospective patrons can still got to get a rotating assembly and engine accessories (most of which are not however enclosed within the NISMO Heritage catalog).

A new forged head can run $1,698 (187,000 Japanese Yen) whereas a replacement block can value patrons $1,535 (170,000 JPY); each along can run $3,233. that's unless you are looking to create some serious power. If that is the case, you'll obtain Nissan's RB26DETT N1 block for $3,833 (450,000 JPY). The N1 designation indicates that the block has been forged with a better nickel content, furthermore as thicker cylinder walls and deck surfaces for builds with higher power goals in mind. The reinforced block is additionally aforementioned to possess improved water channels over the quality giving.

Presently, RB26 long blocks with accessories in unknown condition fetch around $4,500 to $4,800 on the used market. whereas shopping for a second user complete motor remains the route that a lot of enthusiasts can take, particularly those swapping the engine into a non-factory automotive, seasoned engine builders wanting to assemble a high-horsepower motor will currently begin contemporary because of these new elements.

The engine was solely offered for Skylines engineered from 1989 till 2002 (R32, R33, and R34 chassis), and a few of alternative models in Nissan's lineup—none of that were sent to the us, which means that Jewish calendar month presently has no reason to sell the castings stateside. These specific elements within the NISMO Heritage catalog ar presently on the market available in Japan solely. whereas this does not mean you cannot jump through the hoops to possess the elements foreign, it will go up the value to ship on to North America.

Hopefully, Jewish calendar month can take into account increasing its Heritage program to the us because the 25-year-rule makes importation the automaker's classics a lot of realizable. For now, you'll head over to Nissan's web site to idolise all of the elements simply} just cannot have.

This pegs the South Korean midsize sedan against the Subaru gift and Nisan Altima.
An all-new Hyundai serious music is out and concerning, and with it comes a sultry styling from the brand's new “Sensuous Sportiness” style language. What we have a tendency to do understand is that the midsize sedan sits on prime of a replacement platform internally known as N3.

Apart from the recent style language, the new N3 platform is alleged to underpin future Hyundai models, as well as SUV and crossovers. therewith aforesaid, the likelihood of AN all-wheel-drive serious music is not faraway on the horizon, and Hyundai's director of product division is not keen on keeping that a secret.

As rumored by CNET from a press informing in capital of South Korea, Asian nation on, Jae Young Kim shared a definitive ANswer once asked concerning the likelihood of an all-wheel-drive serious music for the U.S. market.

"Yes ... we have a tendency to area unit presently reviewing the requirement for all-wheel drive in [the US] market," he said.

It's quite straightforward to know the requirement for AN all-wheel driveline for the U.S. market. The country encompasses a numerous climate, which implies some components has a clear want for vehicles that would face up to totally different road conditions.

Now, even with the SUV/Crossover' quality within the U.S., particularly those with AWD, not everybody desires a high-riding automobile. there is still a marketplace for midsize cars, and that is wherever AWD sedans just like the Subaru gift, Nisan Altima, and currently probably the 2020 Hyundai serious music acquire play.

Chevrolet's most significant Cars and Trucks

Over a hundred years of a automobile for each purse and purpose...

The name Chevrolet reaches out from America and into the deepest elements of the globe. automobile enthusiast or not, nark has had enough picture automobiles that have perforate on the far side car culture and into in style culture that almost everyone is aware of that name.

It hasn’t been a swish road for nark since Swiss racing car driver and applied scientist Joe Louis Chevrolet and General Motors founder William C. historian started the corporate in 1911. However, the whole survived Chevrolet and historian breach with one another then merging with weight unit before AElfred Sloan set nark on track to become GM’s whole with "a automobile for each purse and purpose.” nark has stayed faithful that for over a hundred years currently, and within the method delivered some true icons on the method.

Chevrolet residential area
The residential area name initial arrived in showrooms in 1935 exploitation the burgeoning formula of a beach waggon vogue body mounted on an advertisement truck frame. nark had antecedently created one thing similar for the territorial, however the bag residential area was a rugged vehicle to hold a whole family and everything they required for long visits. It even featured three-row seating for up to eight occupants. The name residential area lives on nowadays because the longest frequently used plate and has outlived several competitors, as well as offerings from auto and Ford.

Unlike another models in Chevy's current lineup, the residential area hasn’t been diluted and holds true as a life-size body-on-frame SUV capable of being designed for 9 individuals whereas retentive a full-sized storage area.

Chevrolet C10
Chevy made its initial truck in 1918, and presently, the Silverado is that the second popular truck in America. The C/K line of trucks started in 1959 within the U.S. and led to 2000 though it lasted another number of years in South America. The C10 was the half-ton model marketed for recreation also as work and ran from 1960 through to 1987 to line the stage for the Silverado. The C10's quality continues to be large in terms of collectability and as custom comes.

Chevrolet Bel Air Sport auto
The Bel Air Sport auto debuted in 1949 however it had been the second generation from 1955 that became a method icon. It had the fins, the chrome, the aggressive and classy lines. however it had been a V8 engine matched to a Powerglide transmission that cemented the Bel Air Sport auto because the final avenue cruiser. The Bel Air got larger and puffy when the second generation and ne'er quite caught the spirit of the subsequent decades before being retired in 1981.

Chevrolet El Camino
It’s not Chevrolet’s prettiest of vehicles, however the El Camino is one among the brand's most enduring icons. The El Camino was supported a two-door beach waggon platform to make a auto utility vehicle. The origin of the auto utility goes back to Ford in Australia and a farmer’s adult female inquiring for "a vehicle to travel to church in on a Sunday and which may carry our pigs to promote on Mondays”. The El Camino followed the Ford Ranchero by one or two of years within the U.S., however it had been Chevrolet’s a lot of flamboyant, and later sportier, defy the automobile with a floor that embedded it deeper into in style culture.

Chevrolet Bolt
While the school trade and Tesla evangelists are hyping up a corporation that has repeatedly didn't live up its guarantees, nark hasn’t gotten the headlines it deserves for its benchmark-setting electrical vehicle, the Bolt. whereas we tend to still (at the time of writing) await the Tesla Model three to create smart on the promise of a reasonable, 220-mile vary Model three, the Bolt presently weighs in as a compact work unit with a 238 mile vary for around $30,000 (after federal tax credit) with smart build quality and a solid likelihood that the corporate creating it'll still be around in a very few years.

Chevrolet Corvair Corsa
While the general public understand the name Corvair from Ralph Nader’s 1964 political grandstanding book "Unsafe at Any Speed” wherever he targeted thereon as associate example of the automotive industry’s lack of care in shopper safety, Nader didn’t kill the Corsair. Ultimately, the top of the Corvair poached right down to the Camaro rendering it redundant. The Corvair was America’s answer to rear-engined European imports and came with a sub-100 H.P. flat-six engine. However, the Corsa version came with a 140-hp engine and even a turbocharged 180-hp powerplant.

The Corsa really arrived in 1965, a year when Nader’s book crashed into the news cycle, and history is unclear on whether or not it had been supposed as a finger to Nader’s singling out of the automobile, however we elect to believe it had been. Ultimately, a security commission report for the National route Traffic Safety Administration found that the primary generation Corvair possessed no larger potential for loss of management in extreme things than any of its competitors.

Chevrolet antelope
In 1965, the antelope was Chevrolet’s costliest automobile. It sold 1,046,514 units which registered as associate incomparable  trade record. That’s one hell of a stat, however the antelope didn’t stop there and was Chevrolet’s most well liked life-size model for the center of the Eighties. Its current revival has patterned down the success and standing of the antelope name in Chevy's lineup by turning into a reasonable thought front-wheel drive mid-sized automobile. However, we tend to shouldn’t forget the antelope for the heavyweight it had been as a automobile and popular culture icon.

Chevy SS
Somehow, one among Chevy’s finest moments of this century could be a automobile that was foreign to America. each on paper and within the metal, the SS was squarely aimed toward the enthusiast. A showy trying, however not over the highest, 4-door sedan with a 415 H.P. LS3 half dozen.2-liter V8 paired to a 6-speed manual transmission and riding on GM’s wonderful magnetic ride management suspension. It boasted each sharp handling and a swish ride because of the suspension, and to high it off was a 0-60 mph time of four.6 seconds. Exactly 12,953 were foreign to the U.S. market from Australia wherever it had been engineered by Holden. it had been the right automobile to fill the gap left by the Pontiac G8, however the SS light away quietly as a result of not many folks knew it even existed.

Chevrolet Camaro
The 1966 Camaro was an instantaneous and direct reply to Ford’s pony and cementing the horse automobile as a trade section. nark and Ford’s competitive relationship drove each cars to become wonderful performers and cultural icons. It additionally makes it exhausting to imagine one while not the opposite, however the Camaro did disappear in 2002 before coming in 2009 to begin setting new bars in bang for the yankee buck.

Chevrolet war vessel
After associate underwhelming begin in 1963, the war vessel has been pushed and prodded by legendary figures through the decades to become not simply America's sports automobile, however a sports automobile famous throughout the globe. because the war vessel stands without delay, it sits within the bracket of the first sports cars in normal trim levels and world-beating sports cars at either Z06 or ZR1 description. Ultimately, Chevrolet’s gift to the globe is proving that you just don’t would like a really monstrous quantity of money to possess a first sports automobile or perhaps sustain with associate Italian supercar round the track.

Yes, eV homeowners are often automotive Enthusiasts

There’s a typical stereotype on the web regarding eV drivers. Supposedly, we tend to area unit all “iPhone people” and can’t be “real” motorcar enthusiasts. however is it true?

I’ve seen all of this aforementioned in varied places on-line. Our interest in electrical vehicles isn’t based mostly in enthusiasm for cars, however our enthusiasm for gadgets. we tend to can’t probably be “real” automotive enthusiasts. we tend to solely like “lifeless” or “soulless” vehicles, and it’s all regarding obtaining from A to B. “Real enthusiasts” just like the noise of combustion engines, the smell of fuel and exhaust, and also the thrill of row through the gears, thus real enthusiasts would ne'er purchase AN eV.

While there area unit most likely a spread of motivations for individuals language these items, I’m about to have to be compelled to save that for one more article. during this one, i need to explore whether or not there’s any truth to that. once reaching bent on many thousand eV drivers on-line, I found a awfully fascinating mixture of individuals and opinions. Yes, the stereotype is usually true, or half-true, however typically enough, we've individuals within the eV community World Health Organization would match anybody’s definition of a “real” motorcar enthusiast.

It’s True for a few homeowners

Not all stereotypes area unit helpful, however some area unit true, or area unit true enough of the time to be helpful. There area unit {people World Health Organization|people that|folks that|those that|those who} area unit eV enthusiasts who area unit solely into EVs, don’t an excessive amount of care regarding performance, etc. I did realize individuals like this in nearly each eV cluster I reached bent on.

Dennis McWilliams from the Nisan LEAF Worldwide Facebook cluster aforementioned, “Most of the individuals I’ve met World Health Organization drive EVs undoubtedly area unit ‘iPhone’ individuals. I’ve solely met some gearheads World Health Organization area unit into EVs. The stereotype is true. However, gearheads area unit out there.” Sanjay Biswas from the Tesla Model three homeowners Club aforementioned, “I don’t care regarding cars I do really care regarding technology. I care regarding software package computer science Technologies however not a petroleum head. In my case The Stereotype is correct.” He then additional, “My 1st automotive was a Prius then I had the Nisan Leaf.”

Some were pleased with being appliance individuals. “Gadget person and pleased with it…”, aforementioned Juliean Galak within the Tesla Model X homeowners Club. Peter Koen of an equivalent cluster aforementioned, “But it’s true, I’m a clear-thinking appliance person and don’t wish something to try and do with a wrench. eV is like finally reaching the age of enlightenment once the barbaric age of ICE.”

Sal Cameli, a member of many Facebook eV teams, said:

I’ve additional a a thousand watt stereo to my automotive.

A adipose tissue that doesn't take up any internal wares area.

I’ve put in Air Horns in my LEAF.

I’ve put in Door entry lights.

I put in five cameras.

I have a roof however failed to install it. That was an excessive amount of on behalf of me. Cutting into the roof.

When some other person aforementioned, “You area unit the definition of appliance man!”, Sal thanked the opposite member.

EV-Only Enthusiasts are often automotive Enthusiasts

Julie tammy of the Model X homeowners Club cluster summed it up pretty well: “I own a Tesla Model X — the final word performance SUV, that outperforms even sports cars. That’s why sports cars wish to race Pine Tree State. Actually, the Model X will virtually perform — terpsichore to ‘Wizards of Winter.’ I wasn’t a automotive enthusiast till I got this automotive. It’s the best, most technologically advanced, most extraordinarily designed automotive within the world. The inner workings of all of that build it a piece of art.” (emphasis added)

There were variety of people World Health Organization expressed similar sentiments across the assorted teams I reached bent on. They weren’t that into automotives till they found a car that resonated with them.

Toni Klein of Nisan LEAF Worldwide aforementioned, “I don’t flip wrenches, and that i love technology, and that i love being distinctive. My automotive being distinctive suggests that it's a lot of soul imo!! i really like not having a typical kitchen utensil car! The native urban center eV cluster owner posts superb articles regarding the advancements in eV, and they’re amazing!”

“I’m undecided why eV homeowners ought to care regarding the opinions of these World Health Organization wish to be ancient . however the stereotypes area unit silly. and that i don’t essentially assume they’re negative.”

A good variety of respondents told Pine Tree State regarding their adventures racking on EVs. Brian Weatherall, a Nisan LEAF owner, shared a photograph of him fixing a Renault Twizy on the facet of the road to stay it from being stranded by brake issues. Tony Williams of fast Charge Power works on a spread of EVs, particularly the RAV4 electrical, and has done nearly everything possible to them. several were fast to ring a bell in me regarding made Rebuilds, a widely known YouTube channel wherever made salvages destroyed Teslas and returns them to running order.

A number of others went on the far side performing on late-model EVs and were proud to indicate off pictures of their electrical conversions of classic cars. Here’s some of them:

Andre Hut, a LEAF owner, is very pleased with his eV and likes to stoplight race (where legal). “I smash that stereotype each time I’m 1st at the red lightweight. once it turns inexperienced, all the ‘roaring’ cars area unit left behind in my silent dirt. Eventually, some could catch up, as I don't exceed speed limits. But, I’m typically 1st to following red lightweight, again.”

Many eV Enthusiasts area unit ICE Enthusiasts, Too.
I was expecting to listen to individuals tell Pine Tree State regarding their previous enthusiasm for combustion cars, and that i knew that several area unit into each combustion cars and EVs at an equivalent time. What I didn’t expect was simply what number would share this with Pine Tree State. it had been much more than I might have notional.

Some wish to flip wrenches on something with wheels, electrical or not. Others wish to flip wrenches on their ICE cars however just like the welcome break of owning AN eV for a daily driver that they don’t have to be compelled to mess with. there have been additionally many house owners World Health Organization daily drive the eV to save lots of cash or for environmental reasons, and still like to race, build, or work on combustion cars.

There were so much too several to debate all of them, or maybe likened, thus i made a decision to place along a collage of all of the combustion cars that eV homeowners area unit proud to indicate off.

The Stereotype Doesn’t Hold very Well
While there area unit eV enthusiasts World Health Organization area unit appliance individuals, and eV enthusiasts World Health Organization like EVs and area unit excited regarding cars normally, there area unit individuals within the eV community that area unit into each aspect of the automotive hobby. We race, we tend to work on cars, and lots of people area unit into ICE cars of all eras. where you fall, don’t let anybody tell you that you simply aren’t a “real” automotive person.

2020 motorcar Gladiator 1st drive review

When it isn't travel over rocks, the motorcar Gladiator will haul them

The 2020 motorcar Gladiator is one in all the foremost anticipated vehicle launches of the year. motorcar hasn’t created a truck since 1992, once the Cherokee-based Comanche ceased production. Fans are cry for a replacement motorcar truck ever since, and motorcar itself has titillated the thought of a pickup supported the favored Wrangler since 2004, once it unveiled  a plan automotive known as, you guessed it, Gladiator (the name was 1st used on a motorcar truck in 1963).

Now that the Gladiator is finally here, was it well worth the wait? will Jeep’s new Wrangler-based pickup contend against standard midsize trucks just like the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger, and Toyota Tacoma? we have a tendency to visited California’s wine country to seek out out.

When it goes on sale later this year, the Gladiator are offered in four trim levels: base Sport ($35,040), Sport S ($38,240), land ($41,890), and off-road-focused Rubicon ($45,040). All costs embrace a compulsory $1,495 destination charge. motorcar provided associate land model for on-road driving and a Rubicon for off-roading throughout our take a look at.

FAMILIAR, nevertheless totally different
At first look, the Gladiator feels like a motorcar Wrangler Unlimited with a pickup bed, that is ok. The bed, with its sq. taillights and straightforward “Jeep” piece of writing, compliments the acquainted Wrangler front nicely, giving the Gladiator a cool, retro look. From behind the wheel, the Wrangler-like exterior pays dividends in wonderful outward visibility. The square, upright windows and short front build maneuvering in tight areas simple, each on road and off. The Rubicon model’s front-view camera (active solely at low speeds because of regulations) additionally helps.

Jeep additionally unbroken the fun stuff from the Wrangler, together with a fold-down windscreen, removable roof (soft prime normal, exhausting prime optional) and removable doors. however beneath the skin, the Gladiator deviates considerably from the Wrangler.

“We couldn’t simply take a Wrangler, place a box on that, and say it’s truck-capable,” Pete Milosavlevski, chief engineer for the Gladiator, told Digital Trends. The pickup options a novel frame and rear suspension, similarly as larger rear brakes, beefed up axles, and a higher cooling system compared to the Wrangler.

The interior are acquainted to anyone United Nations agency has enjoyed time during a current-generation Wrangler. It sports associate upright dashboard meant to mimic vintage Jeeps, whereas still accommodating the obligatory fashionable touchscreen. motorcar was fast to show a smattering of real metal trim, similarly as a rugged-feeling rubber molding round the touchscreen, however plastic looked as if it would be the foremost common trim material. the look makes up for that, though, as do various Easter Eggs just like the image of a motorcar travel up a corner of the windscreen, and a stamping on the sting of the bed with the amount 419 and a heart — referencing the realm code of Jeep’s town of Toledo, Ohio.

The Gladiator incorporates a generous quantity of interior house for a midsize truck, notably within the back.

Jeep additionally created some Gladiator-specific changes within. The rear seats ar new, and incorporate a lockable under-seat storage box thus driver and passengers have a secure place to stay valuables whereas driving around with the doors off. A water resistant Bluetooth speaker lives within the partition between the cab and bed. It unplugs to supply a transportable supply of music where the Gladiator goes.

The Gladiator is thirty one inches longer than a Wrangler Unlimited with a distance stretched nineteen.4 inches. That interprets into a generous quantity of interior house for a midsize truck, notably within the back. solely the Honda Ridgeline, associateother midsize truck supported an existing SUV (it’s primarily a Honda Pilot with a bed) comes go on overall interior house. Note that the Gladiator’s exhausting prime roof will go with a major headroom penalty over the soft prime.

Most different automakers (Honda being the exception) supply their midsize trucks with a four-door cab and short bed, or a two-door cab and long bed. motorcar solely offers the previous, a move that matches with the automaker’s positioning of the Gladiator as primarily a life-style vehicle, instead of one for people that use their trucks for work. The Gladiator is on the market solely with a five.0-foot pickup box, with a load capability of thirty five.5 cuboid feet, per motorcar. That’s an honest quantity of space, however not the maximum amount as a Ford Ranger equipped with a box of an equivalent length. Ford claims its truck will hold forty three.3 cuboid feet of load.

OFF-ROAD prepared technical school
The Gladiator uses the Uconnect motion picture system antecedently seen in various vehicles from motorcar and different act Chrysler cars (FCA) brands. Apple CarPlay and automaton machine ar normal, along side 5 USB ports (three front, 2 rear) ar normal. the bottom Gladiator Sport gets a five.0-inch touchscreen as normal instrumentation, but 7.0-inch and eight.4-inch screens also are offered. A 3.5-inch TFT show (7.0-inch on higher trim levels) sits between analog gauges within the instrument cluster.

Jeep offers adaptive  control and blind spot watching, however the latter can’t cowl associate connected trailer, because the Ford Ranger’s system will. The Gladiator Rubicon model will get a forward-facing camera that detects obstacles that ar up to 2 feet sooner than the vehicle, that comes in handy on the path. It additionally options dynamic gridlines that show wherever the vehicle can go supported this steering angle. unremarkably found on rear-view cameras, that feature very comes in handy once choosing your manner through mud and boulders cross-country.

The Gladiator additionally options Jeep’s Selec-Speed system. It’s primarily cross-country control, handling acceleration and braking whereas the driving force steers. the driving force may choose a speed between one and five mph (that’s concerning as quick as you would like to travel throughout very technical cross-country driving). whereas the Ford Ranger and Toyota metropolis feature similar systems, Jeep’s is way a lot of capable. It radio-controlled North American country over a pile of mud-slicked rocks at one mph effortlessly, keeping the Gladiator moving over these powerful obstacles with the persistence of a zombie.

ROCK-CRAWLING CHAMP
At launch, the Gladiator are offered solely with Jeep’s acquainted three.6-liter gasolene V6, manufacturing 285 power unit and 260 pound-feet of torsion. Six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions ar offered, and also the Gladiator is that the solely midsize truck with normal machine drive. The Rubicon gets a model-specific machine drive system with protection front and rear differentials and four.10 low-range gear magnitude relation for improved cross-country capability.

Jeep can add a three.0-liter V6 turbodiesel to the lineup throughout the 2020 yr. offered solely with the eight-speed automatic, the six can build 260 HP and a stout 442 lb-ft of torsion. Since it won’t be offered till next year, we have a tendency to didn’t have a chance to sample this engine. motorcar hasn’t mentioned plans to supply the Wrangler’s two.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, or the coming plug-in hybrid powertrain, within the Gladiator.

The Gladiator unbroken moving over powerful obstacles with the persistence of a zombie.

With the gasolene V6, the Gladiator offers a lot of power unit than the other midsize truck engine except the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC ravine twins, that build 308 HP with their shared, optional 3.6-liter V6. However, torsion output is back-of-the-pack stuff. which will modification once the diesel goes on sale. it'll eclipse even the 369 lb-ft of the Colorado/Canyon diesel – the torquiest engine presently offered during a midsize truck.

Lack of torsion doesn’t stop the gasoline-powered Gladiator from putt out some spectacular figures. motorcar claims it'll tow up to seven,650 pounds once properly equipped, with a payload capability of one,600 pounds. each figures place the Gladiator close to the highest of its category, however the vex Colorado and GMC ravine diesels will tow slightly a lot of (7,700 pounds), whereas the Ford Ranger offers a lot of payload capability (1,860 pounds), per their several manufacturers.

The Gladiator is additionally a real motorcar off the overwhelmed path. The Rubicon model’s protection differentials, 33-inch tires (aired down, per normal cross-country practice), associated disconnecting sway bars created fast work of an cross-country course that featured deep mud and rocks created slick by recent precipitation. Given Jeep’s cross-country name, we have a tendency to expected the Gladiator to handle this. we have a tendency to didn’t expect it to be really easy.

All Gladiator models have four skid plates to safeguard the undersurface, whereas the Rubicon adds rock rails beneath the doors and at the bed corners to safeguard the bodywork from harm.

The Gladiator was designed for the path, however can in all probability see a lot of pavement than dirt in client hands. That’s a tangle as a result of, not like the current-generation Wrangler, the Gladiator’s on-road manners may use some polish.

The ride quality is poor even for a standard body-on-frame truck, and particularly dangerous considering however well the equally created Ford Ranger and vex Colorado ride on pavement. motorcar picked winding roads for the drive to the cross-country course, together with a stretch of California’s renowned Pacific Coast route. this is often an excellent place to take out a sports automotive, however the Gladiator felt out of place. It’s not all dangerous, though: the exhausting prime model felt as stiff and solid as a vehicle with a permanently-attached roof, and wind noise was subdued.

Jeep solely had fuel economy estimates for the three.6-liter gasolene V6 prepared in time for publication. It’s expected to urge nineteen mpg combined (17 mpg town, twenty two mpg highway) with the automated transmission. The combined figure remains an equivalent with the manual transmission, however town and route estimates ar sixteen mpg and twenty three mpg, severally. Those numbers ar slightly below average for the phase. The fuel-economy champ of the Gladiator lineup are the coming diesel.

RIVALS
The 2020 motorcar Gladiator joins the little however competitive midsize-truck phase. These ar its rivals.

Chevrolet Colorado (base price: $21,495)/GMC ravine (base price: $22,095): the final Motors twins supply a lot of V6 power unit, and you'll be able to get each with a diesel motor straight away, rather than having to attend for motorcar to feature that choice to the Gladiator. each trucks ar nicer to drive on the road, and also the vex Colorado ZR2 offers serious cross-country capability.

Ford Ranger (base price: $25,395): The Ranger relies on a model antecedently sold  overseas, however has been heavily revamped for the U.S. it's a lot of payload capability than the motorcar, similarly as higher on-road handling and ride. The Ranger can’t match the Gladiator’s cross-country capability, however it performs fairly well within the dirt. The Ranger raptorial bird Ford sells in different markets would be a more in-depth rival to the motorcar.

Honda Ridgeline (base price: $31,035): Honda is that the investor of the midsize truck world. The Ridgeline relies on a car-like unibody platform, providing superior ride quality and refinement to the body-on-frame Gladiator and different, a lot of traditionally-designed trucks. However, the Ridgeline can’t match the Gladiator’s towing and payload numbers, or its cross-country capability.

Nissan Frontier (base price: $20,035): The current-generation Frontier dates back to 2005 thus, not astonishingly, it lags behind the Gladiator and different competitors in technical school, fuel economy, and overall refinement. however the Jewish calendar month may be a cut price, associated it offers an honest simplicity that can’t be found in newer vehicles.

Toyota metropolis (base price: $26,795): The metropolis incorporates a well-reserved name for responsibility, and has higher on-road manners than the Gladiator. However, the cab felt incommodious and dated compared to the motorcar, and also the Tacoma’s payload and towing figures ar solely average. Toyota is rolling out some updates for the 2020 model year, together with a replacement motion picture system compatible with automaton machine.

PEACE OF MIND
Jeep offers a three-year, 36,000-mile new-car assurance and five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain assurance. as a result of the Gladiator may be a new model, crash-test ratings don't seem to be offered. That additionally makes it troublesome to predict future responsibility, though FCA vehicles have associate overall poor name during this space.

HOW DT WOULD tack THIS automotive
We would go straight to the highest and order a Rubicon. While $45,040 may be a ton for a midsize truck, and most towing capability is reduced to seven,000 pounds, the Rubicon gets the cross-country upgrades that bring out the Gladiator’s true potential. The 4:10-ratio Dana forty four axles and rock rails ar things any serious cross-country enthusiast can wish to suit to their Gladiator, thus why not get them straight from the factory?

The Rubicon comes stock with 33-inch tires, however motorcar noted the fenders may accommodate tires up to thirty five inches in diameter while not modification. thus our 1st stop when the concern would in all probability be a tire buy some larger rubber. motorcar will supply a two.0-inch carry kit and tube doors through the Mopar parts catalogue. Finally, we'd work a winch to urge North American country unstuck from any bother spots on the path.

CONCLUSION
It’s stunning that motorcar took goodbye to launch the Gladiator. the mix of Wrangler capability and truck utility is a comprehensible one. It’s additionally exhausting to beat the cool issue of a truck with a convertible prime and removable doors. it should be designed a lot of for play than work, however the Gladiator may be a credible various to ancient midsize trucks just like the Ford Ranger and Toyota metropolis.

Kia voice James Bell aforementioned during a statement that the manufacturer didn’t use any engines from the plant that created Veloster engines.

Jason Levine, executive of the middle for car Safety, a shopper cluster that has petitioned the govt seeking a lot of Hyundai and Kia remembers, aforementioned the hearth and engine issues keep spreading to a lot of vehicles.

“This recall raises the question of whether or not we have a tendency to square measure even on the far side the tip of the iceberg with these non-crash fires with each of those makers,” Levine aforementioned. “How again and again square measure we have a tendency to progressing to hear from either Hyundai or Kia that these circumstances square measure distinctive to a selected model then have another recall or fireplace scenario declared weeks or months later?”

Hyundai aforementioned in documents that it's been analyzing fireplace claims from house owners and reportage the findings to NHTSA, that in December raised questions about the Veloster. the corporate derived the matter to engine management package in vehicles created at the Ulsan plant in Asian country from April twenty six, 2012 to October. 16, 2013, consistent with documents.

While claims were high for the 2013 model, they attenuated beginning in 2014, the corporate wrote. package was updated on vehicles at the manufactory in Oct of 2013, the corporate aforementioned. Hyundai wrote that it’s not responsive to any crashes or injuries.

Dealers can install updated package on the recalled cars. house owners are going to be notified beginning could thirteen.

In Feb, Kia declared that it might recall the Soul little SUV with the same-size engine because of fireplace and equipment failure issues, however Stewart aforementioned that was for a haul that was completely different from the Veloster.

The Soul recall lined nearly 379,000 vehicles from 2012 through 2016. Documents showed that prime exhaust gas temperatures will harm the chemical change converters, that management pollution. which will cause abnormal combustion and harm pistons and connecting rods. A unsuccessful rod will pierce the block and cause oil leaks which will cause fires.

So far Hyundai and Kia have recalled regarding a pair of.4 million vehicles to repair issues which will cause fires and engine failures since 2015. additionally, the automakers do a “product improvement campaign” covering another three.7 million vehicles to put in package that may alert drivers of doable engine failures and send the cars into a reduced-speed “limp” mode if issues square measure detected.

Both automakers square measure underneath investigation by NHTSA for probably being slow to repair faulty vehicles.

The Center for car Safety says it's found quite three hundred Hyundai-Kia fireplace complaints during a government info, that is high compared with similar vehicles. Levine has aforementioned fireplace complaints to NHTSA have return from across the country, as well as a death in Ohio in April of 2017.

VW T-Cross SUV Scores 5-Star Rating In Latin NCAP Tests

In the Brazil-spec, the Volkswagen T-Cross is equipped with six airbags (dual front, side-front and side-curtain) as standard with electronic stability control as well. Based on the German manufacturer’s new MQB A0 platform, it did well in all three crash tests - front, side and side pole impact. It offers adequate chest protection and good protection to the arms, legs and head of the driver in the front impact test. For the passenger, protection was good all around. The T-Cross scored five stars not only for adult occupant protection but for child occupant protection as well thanks to child seat anchorages thaat facilitate the installation of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) for older children seated facing backwards. These anchors could equip all major CRS brands tested by Latin NCAP, which helped it secure the five star safety rating.Volkswagen’s T-Cross also won the Latin NCAP Advanced Award for its pedestrian protection and multi-collision braking technology. The latter brings the car to a halt if it is still moving after a collision, to avoid further accidents. These safety rating accolades for Volkswagen’s smallest compact SUV are good news for the T-Cross worldwide as well.

2020 Kia Soul EV First Drive Review | EZ to like

SEOUL, South Korea – The 2020 Kia Soul is the third iteration of the boxy little crossover and the second generation of the battery-powered variant, the Soul EV. While the 2020 Soul overall is mildly upgraded compared to the outgoing model, the Soul EV makes a major leap where it counts: with a new powertrain that more than doubles the stated range to an impressive 243 miles.

The new 2020 Kia Soul EV scraps the previous 30-kWh battery for a new, more energy-dense 64-kWh unit, shared with the Hyundai Kona Electric. The battery pack feeds a motor that now makes 201 horsepower – also shared with the Kona Electric, and producing the same horsepower figure as the Soul Turbo. It spins out 291 pound-feet of torque, which is immediately available underfoot. That's enough to chirp the front tires, and it instantly squirts the Soul ahead in the urban cut-and-thrust. It's also plenty powerful enough for high-energy merging onto the freeway. Kia estimates a 0-to-60-mph time of 7.2 seconds.

The battery is replenished via standard Combined Charging System (CCS) DC fast charging capability, with the port now behind a flap in the front grille insert. The CCS can handle up to a 100-volt feed at a public charger – should you find one, it can top up the battery (from 20 to 80 percent) in as little as 42 minutes. With a more common 240-volt source, a depleted battery can be replenished in five to six hours – rather than 63 (!) plugging into a standard 120-volt outlet. Owners definitely will want to install a charger at home, and Kia has partnered with Amazon to sell three Kia-recommended 240-volt chargers: A 40-amp Bosch from $764, a 40-amp JuiceBox from $549, and a 32-amp ChargePoint at $699, although others brands and models can be used.

Buyers in northern climes will want to check out the Cold Weather Package, which supplements the standard heated seats with a heated steering wheel, upgrades the climate control to a more efficient heat pump, and also adds the capability to heat the battery (when the car is plugged in) for better range in cold conditions. How energetically the car responds to a prod of the accelerator depends on which of the four drive modes you're in: Sport, Normal, Eco, or Eco+. Sport unsurprisingly was our favorite in a half-day drive in and around Seoul. Some drivers might find it too snappy, and of course it also drains electrons the fastest. In Normal mode the car is still spry, while in Eco and Eco+ one really needs to leg the go-pedal. Note that those two more abstemious settings also affect the climate control, switching it to a driver-only setting in Eco and shutting it off entirely in Eco+.

Out on the road the powertrain is drowned out by tire noise, although a spacey electronic whine can be heard at low speeds or more noticeably when outside the car. The degree of regenerative braking in response to lifting one's right foot can be adjusted via the shift paddles, which toggle through four levels. The highest of which still falls short of one-pedal driving. A continuous pull on the "minus" paddle, however, does bring the car to a stop. Unlike the standard Soul, in the EV a knob handles the shifting duties.

Outside of its electric powertrain, the Soul provides a lot to like. As it has been since the beginning, the Soul makes the most of its boxy shape. The 2020 version is 2.2 inches longer and sits astride a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase, but width and height are the same. Packaging is exceptional with a hugely roomy rear seat (ride-share drivers take note) along with a decent cargo hold. Outward visibility is great with plenty of glass area and narrow front pillars. The funky style extends to the interior, which has unusually textured trim on the door panels and large gloss-black elements on the center dash and console. And that's not to mention multi-color interior lighting that, with the optional Sound Mood Lighting system, can pulse to the beat pumping out of the sound system for that rolling-nightclub vibe (a feature that dates back to the original Soul). All this serves to distract one from the fact that much of the interior is grained hard plastic, including the sides of the console against which the driver's right leg rests. Still, this is an agreeable environment, with easily-to-use switchgear and plenty of stowage. The standard 10.25-inch touchscreen can display up to three functions at a time, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. The instrument cluster is also a TFT screen, and a head-up display is available.

The Soul has always been more hipster than jock, and yet this well-tuned chassis doesn't embarrass itself when the road turns twisty – and was even kind of fun when we took a hot lap around Hyundai's handling track. The steering also is slightly quicker than before, although it's still fairly light and numb. The new Soul EV has upped its game by switching from a rear beam axle to a more sophisticated multi-link setup, a change exclusive to the EV and one that helps it capably absorbs bumps better than many small crossovers.

The Soul EV is also better equipped than most, with LED headlamps, 17-inch alloys, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, a driver attention monitor, and a commendably hi-res rear camera that also can show an overhead view. Blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and an audible rear parking aid are available. The uplevel Designer Collection model sports a two-tone paint treatment, gloss-black power folding mirrors, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, man-made premium upholstery, a Qi wireless phone charger, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. With this redesign, the Soul EV moves from offbeat oddity to a top choice among entry-level electrics. It's roomier and more polished than the Chevrolet Bolt and it beats the Nissan Leaf's range. Its biggest competitors are within the Hyundai-Kia family that share the same electric powertrain: the Niro EV (EPA rated at 239 miles) and the Hyundai Kona EV (the range champ at 259 miles). Within the Kia showroom, the choice will come down to whether one prefers the Niro's more traditional crossover shape and cargo area, or the Soul's more expressive styling inside and out, including seven two-tone colors. We're told the Soul EV also will be a grand or two less expensive, although official pricing for either model isn't yet out.

For those impatient to start driving green, the Soul EV won't arrive until summer or perhaps this fall, while the Niro EV should be in showrooms this spring. For either car, however, those showrooms are only the ones located in the 13 states that follow California emissions standards. When it finally arrives, we think green-car shoppers will find the newest version of the electric Soul to be one EV that's EZ to like.

2020 Kia Telluride first drive review

Kia (like its corporate sibling, Hyundai) is on a mission to expand its crossover and SUV lineup to better serve a buying public that just can’t get enough of more-than-enough. To that end, the new, range-topping 2020 Telluride gives Kia an entry in the hotly-contested large SUV segment.

The 2020 Kia Telluride comes in four trim levels (LX, S, EX and SX), all of which are available in either front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. The FWD LX model starts at $31,690, and the top-end SX checks in at $41,490. Adding AWD to any model requires spending $2,000. Destination is pegged at $1,045 for all models.

Kia baked just about everything into the Telluride’s trim walk, leaving very little room for à la carte configuration. A second-row bench can be substituted for the standard captain’s chairs on S models for $100; a $795 tow package adds a hitch and self-leveling rear suspension; and a $2,000 Prestige Package (exclusive to the SX with all-wheel-drive) bundles Nappa leather upholstery, a head-up display, second-row heated and ventilated seats, rain-sensing wipers, a 100-volt inverter, and a heated steering wheel.

Our test vehicle was an SX model with all-wheel-drive and the Prestige package. With carpeted floor and cargo area mats, our Telluride rang the till at $46,860. This is about as loaded as it gets.
INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR DESIGN

Kia’s mission for the Telluride was twofold. Not only did the company want to add a full-blown midsize family hauler to its lineup, but it put special emphasis on it being an SUV rather than simply a larger Sorento.

That last point is important. The Sorento may be advertised as a midsize, three-row crossover, but it’s technically built on a compact crossover platform. Kia could have simply cut the proverbial sausage to yet another length, but differentiation was a key part of the Telluride’s mission from the get-go. The result pays dividends in more ways than one.Kia long ago left behind its cheap economy car heritage, so it’s no surprise that the Telluride boasts a cabin befitting its $32,000-and-up price tag. The interior touches in our loaded-up test models were particularly impressive, especially considering that the wood and metal finishes are not what they seem.

Kia calls them synthetic, which is an appropriately sophisticated way of saying fake, but they are nonetheless impressive. Where some manufacturers may use high-gloss, plasticky woodgrain trim panels, Kia opted instead for an exposed-grain effect. It’s a premium execution reminiscent of the way Volkswagen used to dress up its mainstream models. From a practicality perspective, Telluride offers more interior passenger and cargo volume than just about any of its competitors (including the brand-new Subaru Ascent and Volkswagen Atlas) and, notably, the larger, truck-based Chevrolet Tahoe. It gives occupants 157 cubic feet of space, while the Tahoe only musters 122.4 cubes. Those figures don’t tell the whole story, though.

The Telluride has 21 cubic feet of trunk space with a full load of passengers. With the third row stowed, the number increases to 46 cubic feet. Drop both passenger rows and you get a whopping 87 cubes. The Tahoe checks in at 15.3, 51.7, and 94.7, respectively. The Ascent and the Toyota Highlander trail both models with a maximum cargo capacity of 72.6 and 83.7 cubes, respectively. The Atlas comes out on top with up to 96.8 cubic feet of trunk space for your gear.

TECH FEATURES

The Telluride offers a robust suite of standard tech and driver assistance features, including a couple (lane follow assist and rear cross-traffic avoidance with braking intervention) which are segment firsts.

The rest of its standard features read like the bulk of a spec sheet for level two semi-autonomy: automated emergency braking with pedestrian protection, smart cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist (not to be confused with the aforementioned follow function, which actually centers the Telluride in the lane), and blind spot detection with collision avoidance and braking/steering intervention.

Upgrading to the EX or SX trim gets you Kia’s Highway Drive Assist technology, which integrates all of the above features into a semi-autonomous driving system which the firm has internally validated as a level two suite. Exclusive to SX models is a neat blind spot view monitor, which uses blind spot cameras to display images on the Telluride’s central screen. This feature is almost identical to Honda’s LaneWatch.

Ford discontinues B-Max and C-Max MPVs

Ford has confirmed that it will end production of the B-Max and C-Max MPVs as part of its wide-reaching strategy to return to profitability in Europe.

The two people carriers, long rumoured for the chop after years of slow sales across the continent, will be built until the end of June at Ford’s factory in Saarlouis, Germany. There will be a switch to a two-shift operating pattern, with night shift production ended.

Ford to 'redesign' European business

Ford claims the measures have been approved “to create a sustainably profitable business in Germany and Europe”. The Saarlouis plant will continue to produce the Focus, with “higher-margin variants” such as the Active and ST to be prioritised in order to improve margins. Earlier this month, Ford announced that it would cut more 5000 jobs in Germany and an as-yet-undetailed number in the UK while it attempts to restructure its European business and return to financial health.

The Ford C-Max MPV is as much fun to drive as it is easy to live with, if you're more interested in storage than the driving dynamics you'll find in an SUV

Further job cuts, possible plant closures and model line trimmings are expected to follow. The American manufacturer employs 53,000 people across Europe, including 12,000 in the UK.

Sales of the C-Max and seven-seat Grand C-Max have been slowing as customers switch to SUVs such as the Kuga, with just 53,000 sold in Europe last year – a 21% drop on 2017.

New Kia Soul EV Gets Tested By Autocar With Mostly Positive Results

2020 Soul EV grows up in terms of packaging and performance, according to Autocar
A lot of electric vehicle attention at Kia has gone to its e-Niro and its Chevrolet Bolt-busting range, giving those shying away from an all-electric one less reason to get anxious about range. But the 2020 Kia Soul EV has the benefit of sharing the e-Niro’s tech while wrapped in one of the most popular small hatchback/crossover styles of the last decade.
In a largely positive first drive, Autocar found the new Soul EV to be a more grown-up vehicle than the model it replaces. The second-generation Soul, unveiled in November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, gets more powerful innards to go along with evolutionary design changes in line with its internal combustion engined brethren. The liquid-cooled 64-kWh battery and standard rapid charging give it a practical range (280 miles for the EU, while Kia’s U.S. branch is targeting around 230 miles from the EPA). Its 201 horsepower and 291 lb.-ft. of torque give it prompt acceleration in spite of its weight.Sure, Autocar bemoans the new Soul’s slightly smoothed-out lines and the fact that its increased external footprint isn’t really backed up by more meaningful space inside. And at around £32,000 ($41,685) to start in the U.K., it certainly isn’t cheap – although when the 2020 Soul EV lands in the U.S. later this year, it should be priced closer to the $34,945 of the outgoing car (and before relevant incentives). But based on early reviews, the Soul EV has graduated to the mainstream EV big leagues, and could make life harder for the likes of the Bolt and Nissan Leaf.

These New Jersey used car dealers will repo and resell your car if you miss a payment

When Ashley McAdams bought a used car at Pine Valley Motors, she was offered a used baby car seat as part of the deal.
The dealership had recently repossessed the 2011 Hyundai Sonata, and the car was still filled with the previous owner’s belongings, McAdams said. A salesman told her she could do whatever she wanted with the baby car seat, stroller, and bills inside the vehicle, or he could take them out, McAdams said. She wanted only the car.“So he literally took the stuff out and threw it in the dumpster,” said McAdams, 25, of Hammonton.
The strange scene in December 2017 at the Berlin, Camden County, car dealer would foreshadow McAdams’ own experience with the vehicle and the high interest rates she’d need to pay to keep it. Just three months later, Pine Valley Motors took the car out of her driveway in the middle of the night after she missed “one or two” $100 weekly payments, McAdams said. The dealership had the right to plant a tracking device in her car and a gadget that could disable the vehicle, according to her contract. It may seem like slim odds that the dealer repossessed one car from two owners in three months. But that was just part of the business model at Pine Valley Motors, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office. The repeated repossessions also shed light on an industry that has deployed new technology to track and reclaim cars from buyers with poor credit.
Pine Valley Motors and its sister dealership, Nu 2 U Auto World in Clementon, Camden County, repeatedly sold old cars at inflated prices to low-income consumers, then repossessed and resold the cars over and over once owners defaulted, the state claimed in a lawsuit this month. The state seeks to close the dealerships and ban the owner, Kenneth Cohen, from owning or operating a car dealer in New Jersey. It also asks for unspecified civil penalties and restitution.
Cohen declined comment.
The suit takes aim at two “Buy Here Pay Here” car dealers — auto retailers that typically sell vehicles to low-income consumers who can’t get traditional auto loans. These dealerships handle the financing in-house and often impose double-digit interest rates. To ensure repayment of risky auto loans, the dealers often attach GPS monitors and devices that can remotely keep cars from being started.Supporters of the industry say it provides transportation to customers with poor credit histories. But consumer advocates have accused dealerships of saddling financially vulnerable consumers with auto loans they can’t afford and using abusive repossession tactics. About a quarter of Buy Here Pay Here customers default on their payments, according to a February report from the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG) and the Frontier Group, a think tank.
Cohen’s car dealerships expected customers to lose their vehicles, the state claimed in a complaint filed March 5 in Superior Court in Camden County.
Customers were forced to sign documents barring them from keeping personal possessions in their vehicles, the suit said. The dealerships also required consumers to hand over copies of their keys. By selling over-priced cars to consumers who could not make payments, the dealers could reclaim the vehicles and start the “sell, finance, and repossess” cycle all over again, the state said.
A 2002 Acura TL was sold five times in one year, the suit said. A 2009 Chevy Malibu sold six times in three years. And a 2006 Dodge Charger had eight different owners over five years. What’s more, the state claimed that the dealers sold old cars with high mileage at inflated prices. For instance, a 2006 Mazda with an estimated value of $1,867 was sold for $8,995, the complaint said. In some cases, the dealers required down payments that nearly covered the estimated value of the cars and offered loans at interest rates exceeding 24 percent, the state said. The dealer demanded payments on a weekly basis.
“Buyers who could least afford it were paying exorbitant prices for road-worn vehicles and financing them under terms so oppressive, it all but guaranteed they would default on the loans," Paul R. Rodríguez, acting director of the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, said in a statement. “To add insult to injury, too many consumers were left without a vehicle to take them home or to work, letting the dealership quickly resell the car to another unsuspecting customer.”
In July, the state Motor Vehicle Commission suspended Nu 2 U and Pine Valley’s vehicle dealer licenses, claiming they sold vehicles without having their titles, the suit said.
In interviews and on social media posts, customers said they were sold junk cars that quickly broke down. Consumers said defaults and outstanding balances ruined their credit. A few Facebook users described a heartwarming story that took a dark turn when Nu 2 U gave away a car around the holidays before the transmission failed.

GT Sport Website Accidentally Reveals Porsche 962, Trueno AE86 and More

We haven’t even had time to install GT Sport‘s latest content update, but already there’s news about more — albeit unintentionally.

It’s all down to the game’s official website. The site allows you to use filters to look for specific types of user-generated content. From full liveries to Scapes photos, if you want to see content featuring a certain car, you can.

Particularly sharp readers spotted a bit of a goof this morning when using these vehicle filters. Not only did the filters now contain all of the cars from the v1.36 update — like the Super Formula SF19 — but they also featured cars not yet in the game.Of course it didn’t take long for users to dig through all the possibilities. The full list of cars they were able to find is:

Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro 2003
Gran Turismo X2014 Competition
Honda Fit Hybrid 2014
Porsche 962C 1988
Renault R8 Gordini 1966
Toyota Sprinter Trueno 3door 1600GT APEX (AE86) 1983Several of these cars are favorites from older Gran Turismo games. The X2014 Competition will be familiar to those who watch or participate in the FIA-Certified Gran Turismo Online Championship live events. It’s a version of the X2014 that sports less downforce from a different rear wing and a bit more power via a V12 engine.

There’s also two cars that are new to the series. Although the Honda Fit Hybrid will remind players of the GT6 starter car, it’s in fact a different version. It’s a petrol-electric hybrid, third generation car which could prove good fun for those who like slower racing where momentum is key.

Overshadowing that somewhat and right at the other end of the scale is the Porsche 962. The 962, a development of the earlier 956, won the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1986 and 1987, and came pretty close in 1988 too. It dominated prototype racing during its active years and even, through a bizarre loophole in the rules, came back after retirement to win Le Mans again in 1994. It’s simply among the most iconic race cars of all time.

Though Polyphony Digital has now fixed the website, it’s a pretty good indication that these six cars are lined up for the next content update. This doesn’t yet have a confirmed date, but we’ll bring you more as we get it.

This Is The Most Efficient Gasoline-Powered New Car You Can Buy

When we think of the words "fuel efficiency,” terms like "hybrid,” "plug-in hybrid,” and "electric vehicle” all typically come to mind. But modern gasoline-engined vehicles are also more efficient than ever, some more so than others. So which is the most efficient? That would be the Mitsubishi Mirage.
The Japanese automaker has confirmed its subcompact sedan, sold as the Mirage G4, and hatchback are the most fuel-efficient gasoline-engined vehicles in America. The EPA has awarded the Mirage hatchback with a rating of 36/43 mpg city/highway. The Mirage G4 returns a slightly lower 35/41 mpg city/highway.The government agency confirmed that the 1.2-liter three-cylinder-equipped Mirage has an ownership cost of $900 annually based on 45 percent highway and 55 percent city driving, current fuel prices, and a maximum of 15,000 miles yearly. Pricing for the Mirage hatchback starts at $13,795 while the sedan is slightly higher at $14,395. Mitsubishi claims the sedan offers the most rear and total legroom in its class, while both body styles offer a lot of features for the money. These include a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, a rearview camera, steering wheel controls, and a USB port located in the center console. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are optional.

Volkswagen and Ford to jointly develop Amarok successor

Ford and Volkswagen have signed a contract to co-develop a replacement for the Amarok pick-up truck.

Ford's mid-size Ranger pick-up truck will likely form the basis of any future platform, and may help Volkswagen reduce the costs associated with designing a replacement for the Amarok. The partnership could see a production model on sale by 2022.

The agreement, as reported by Automotive News Europe, is the first to follow the German and American brands' announcement of a 'global alliance', which could eventually expand to include electric and autonomous cars.

The agreement is likely to involve Volkswagen developing a van based on Ford’s Transit platform, and the two have also signed a memorandum of understanding to “investigate collaboration” on electric and autonomous vehicles and mobility services. Both companies have said they're open to considering “additional vehicle programmes” in the future.

Ford boss Jim Hackett said the alliance will “help both companies create value and meet the needs of our customers and society” and “give us the opportunity to collaborate on shaping the next era of mobility”.

Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess added that the alliance “will be a cornerstone for our drive to improve competitiveness”.

The alliance will be governed by a joint committee headed by Hackett and Diess and does not involve any cross-ownership between the two firms.

The news follows an announcement in June that the companies were looking to collaborate on the development of future commercial vehicles, among other projects. Ford's president of global markets, Jim Farley, called this move an example of Ford’s commitment to “leveraging adaptive business models”.

Both Volkswagen and Ford are keen to introduce new electric vehicles to the European market, where strict regulations are being imposed on the development and sale of petrol and diesel vehicles. Volkswagen has previously stated its intention to produce 2-3 million electric cars by 2025.

Ford and Volkswagen, alongside BMW and Daimler, are co-owners of the Ionity scheme, which is developing a network of ultra-fast charging stations across Europe.

The alliance is not the first of its kind; last year, Honda invested $2.75 billion in General Motors' self-driving division. The Japanese and American companies plan to challenge tech giants Apple and Google with a new range of driverless taxis.

Established car makers around the world are beginning to shift their focus entirely to researching and developing zero-emissions and self-driving vehicles as global legislation aims to reduce pollution.

Kia Soul EV 2019 review

What is it?
This is Kia’s all-new electric Soul, now slightly larger, packed with substantially more technology and most appealingly of all, furnished with a drivetrain and battery pack that will enable it to officially travel 280 miles between charges.

If you use a 50kW charger, 80% of that range can be replenished in 75 minutes. And those numbers are sufficient to make the Soul EV viable as an everyday, all-journey car. Kia has yet to announce a price, but it will be usefully less than the e-Niro’s £36,495.

Given that car’s outstanding blend of range, performance and price, it should be no surprise that the new, second-generation version of the Kia Soul uses exactly the same electric motor, power electronics and battery systems. Kia also points out that the huge cost of developing and manufacturing this drivetrain necessitates sharing it across these three models within the Hyundai Group.

The Soul sits on a different platform, however, and one that is structurally stiffer and 30mm longer in the wheelbase than previously. The front overhang has grown by 25mm, for intriguing reasons we’ll come to, but the wheelbase stretch does at least yield another 13mm of rear legroom. The boot’s bigger as well, though not by enough to eliminate criticisms of a shortfall.

There’s plenty of extra tech, too. Adaptive cruise control and lane following afford a useful amount of autonomy in heavy traffic, there’s an extensive suite of electronic safety systems, a head-up display and various features designed to maximise the battery pack.

These include cooling and heating the 64kW battery with liquid rather than air, while a button enables you to control heat or chill only the driver’s portion of the cabin if you’re one-up and need to eke. An in-built heat pump recovers waste heat from the coolant, while driving modes that include Eco and Eco Plus help, as do four levels of brake regeneration, these altered via paddle shifts as per the e-Niro.What's it like?
It looks bigger and it feels more grown-up, especially inside where the cabin takes on a new level of sophistication and convenience. But the biggest difference will be in your mind, because like the e-Niro, this is an EV in which that 'will-I-make-it' anxiety can largely be forgotten.

The Soul’s new TFT instrument cluster displays your range in fairly big digits, and in contrast to older EVs, they tumble at a considerably slower rate, and sometimes more slowly than the rate at which miles are covered. It’s also much easier to slow the decline with careful driving.

You enjoy the near-noiseless propulsion of an EV, of course, but more compelling are the urgent surges of power to be enjoyed at low to middling speeds. This is an urban crossover that really is suited to an urban world. It will quickly dart into gaps, it will sludge through jams with minimal semi-autonomous effort and do all this without fuming the streets. And all of this can be enjoyed in a fair degree of comfort.

This is not an especially luxurious car, but it’s well-equipped, restfully quiet and rides adequately. It’s also spacious, back-benchers enjoying the space to slump quite extravagantly. As with every EV the battery pack’s mass can produce resolute thumping over bumps, but the Soul’s ride rarely turns uncomfortable.

You do sense its heft, though – this is a 1682kg machine – and the urge to fling it about is somewhat tempered by steering that feels too lightly disconnected in all modes other than sport, in which it turns springily resistant. Which is better, but not great. That’s a shame, because the Soul’s low centre of gravity and contained roll allow moderately ambitious, fluent cornering. Couple that to its surprisingly brisk 7.9sec 0-62mph time – the same as the more potent Nissan Leaf scores – and it’s easier to understand Kia’s desire to make this car look slightly more sporty.

That, in fact, is the reason for the slightly disappointing 25mm stretching of the front overhang, although the main reason, rather unexpectedly, is to lend the Soul’s face a resemblance to… Darth Vader. It may be more than 40 years since the original ‘Star Wars’ blazed across the world’s cinema screens, but this film’s memorably glossy embodiment of evil was a visual inspiration, says Kia.

The electric Soul’s face hardly looks evil, but it will grab attention with the night-time illumination of its jutting, trapezoidal grille. Those keen on unusual lighting can enjoy a veritable palette of in-cabin glowing ambiences, although switching them on defeated the occupants of this test car.

2019 Porsche Taycan: new official pics and details

The Porsche Taycan, the firm's first electric car, is in the final stages of an extensive test programme ahead of its launch later at the Frankfurt motor show – and Autocar has been given in-depth access to the development team.

Autocar was to visit a cold weather test with Porsche in northern Sweden. There was no technical briefing, no press release at what was no kind of launch but a piggyback on an extant engineering operation, but, nevertheless, after two days of conversation, the clearest picture yet of the Taycan’s technical content is now becoming apparent.

The Tesla Model S rival will be launched by Porsche in September with two power outputs, and first customer deliveries will take place before the end of the year. It seems the most powerful will now have rather more than the 600bhp originally suggested for it (perhaps as much as 630bhp), with the less powerful model around 100bhp behind. At least one more model will be introduced thereafter, likely to have an output in the mid-400bhp range.

But there's also a fourth model that has been fully engineered but may or may not go on sale. This car has a single electric motor and rear-wheel drive, so it will likely have just over 300bhp but come with a substantial weight saving. "The decision to make it is not technical but financial," a spokesperson said. "If the market wants it, we will make it." There's no two-door Taycan anywhere in the product plan, nor any ultra-sporting GT model.

The naming strategy for the car will be interesting, as Porsche is keen to make it feel as familiar as possible. So expect a conventional approach, with the range topper called the Taycan Turbo, with GTS, S and standard Taycan badging also to be used. A high-riding crossover version based on the Mission E Cross Turismo concept is planned.

Much speculation has surrounded the weight of the Taycan, but I was told it was ‘in the range of the Panamera hybrid’, which means around 2250kg, making it a touch heavier than the Jaguar I- Pace and on a par with the Tesla Model S. Acceleration for the top model is now informally referred to as ‘way below’ the 3.5sec 0-62mph sprint originally claimed for the Mission E. Interestingly, all Taycans will also be capable of at least 155mph, a function not only of their power but also the two-speed gearbox, which, like that in the BMW i8, allows prolonged use of full electric power at sustained high velocity.

Porsche has also been improving the repeatability of the Taycan’s performance. It can now do at more than a dozen 0-62mph standing starts with no fall-off in power (earlier talk was around 10) and at least four 0-124mph runs without degradation, which is doubtless at least four more than most owners will attempt. It will maintain its top speed "for longer than you could drive at that speed on any public road".

The range is still 310 miles, but bear in mind this measured on the old NEDC scale and will be lower on the new and more realistic WLTP measure – probably around 270 miles.

The charging times now talked about for the Taycan appear genuinely game-changing, with Porsche engineers freely quoting an additional 62 miles of range for every four minutes of charge and a charge from 10% to 80% of less than 20 minutes. Key to this is the Taycan’s 800V charging apparatus (which also halves the weight of the wiring loom).

Frustratingly, however, the 350kW charging infrastructure that facilitates such rapid charging is very much in its infancy. Ionity is in the process of rolling out 400 such stations across Europe by 2020, but just 69 are functioning at present, and none are in the UK. Indeed, just two are even under construction, in Maidstone and Gretna Green. So it will likely be 2021 at least before British Taycan owners are able to take full advantage of the technology that their car contains.

Dealers held more used car stock in February

On average, dealers held on average 66 used cars in February, which is up 12% year-on-year.
Also, the latest Market View from Motors.co.uk shows that independents sold used cars faster and held lower stock levels than their counterparts in the franchised sector.
Stock levels in franchised sites averaged 62 cars, taking 49 days to sell. Independents averaged 46 cars in 46 days, while supermarkets stocked an average of 1,950 cars and averaged just 30 days in stock.
Dermot Kelleher, Motors.co.uk’s director of marketing and business intelligence, said: “Used car forecourts were busy in February with dealers achieving a solid performance of 44 days in stock, compared with the 47 days it was taking them to sell cars in January.
“However, the rise in stock volumes suggests some dealers were carrying extra vehicles with an average of seven additional cars per forecourt, potentially in an attempt to maximise conversions from forecourt visits to sales by ensuring they had more choice.
“While this is clearly good for buyers, some dealers would have been nervous at making the extra investment and will be looking to trade those cars as quickly and profitably as possible.”
50% of used cars for sale were diesels, down from 54% 12 months ago, with petrol growing from 44% to 50%.
Diesels sold faster than they did 12 months ago at an average of 43 days, compared with 56 days last year. Petrol cars averaged 44 days in stock, compared with 42 days a year ago.

Automakers Are Charging Too Much For New Cars

Is this why new car sales are dropping?

The average new car price in the US today is $33,319. The average US household income for 2018 was around $60,000. Millions of Americans are spending at least half, if not more, of their annual income on a new car, which is financed of course. However, the increase in car prices has come at a cost.
According to CNBC, US auto sales are falling due to price increases, resulting in buyers at the lower end of the economic spectrum simply getting priced out of the new car market. Already for 2019, new car sales are predicted to drop around 2.5 percent from last year. Even rental car companies and other commercial businesses are expected to buy fewer cars. But just to give you another indicator as to just how much consumers have increased new car spending, the average buyer is now ponying up an additional $1,000 more per purchase compared to last year at this time. Are automakers increasing new car prices beyond regular inflation? Sometimes but not always. What’s happening is that automakers have been manufacturing fewer cheaper new vehicles. There’s simply less money to be made. Just look at the increase in demand for crossovers over conventional sedans. Crossovers typically cost more and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find the so-called "base models” on dealership lots.
For customers who are getting pushed out of the new vehicle market, and this is a growing number, they’re simply turning to used vehicles, both late model and older. Often times those late model vehicles still come with remaining time on the factory warranty. If those vehicles were leased by their original drivers, that means they were subject to yearly mileage limits, another strong selling point.

7 ways to make your car last longer and save you money

Cars are big tickets buys for most American families. In fact, it's usually the second biggest purchase right after the family home.

Unfortunately, cars are getting more and more expensive in the US. Sales data compiled by the Kelley Blue Book show that the average car cost more than $36,500 in February or nearly $1,000 more than in February 2018. Some of the more popular segments of the market were even more expensive. For example, full-size pickup trucks such as the Ford F-Series, Chevrolet Silverado, and the Ram 1500 had an average transaction cost of $49,958. That's an increase of more than $3,000 over the same period in 2018. Compact crossover SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV cost an average of $29,259, up nearly $800 over the same time last year.

According to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the average cars on the road in 2017 was 10.1 years old. That's up from 9.5 years of age in 2009 and 9.0 years in 2001.

Regardless of whether this trend is caused by better build quality or increasingly high prices, the result is the same; cars are lasting a long time.

Recently, Business Insider spoke with Kelley Blue Book executive editor Michael Harley and Edmunds.com senior consumer advice editor Ron Montoya for some tips on how to make your last longer and save you money.

Fortunately, most of the advice is simple, common sense practices that don't require much effort or expertise to implement.

1. Follow the manufacturers' recommended service schedule. Both Montoya and Harley emphasized the importance of following your car's service schedule.

"The best way to prolong the life of your vehicle is to stay on top of the scheduled maintenance," Montoya said.

Your owners manual should have a detailed outline of when the maintenance should occur and what will need to be addressed at each time.

This includes oil and filter changes along with inspections of your car's tires, brakes, and fluid levels.

Montoy and Harley both say the old 3,000-mile per oil change rule no longer applies to modern cars.

"There could be oil changes anywhere between 3,750 miles for a severe service if you do a lot of stop-and-go driving or upwards of 15,000 miles between oil changes if you do a lot highway commuting," Harley said.

Each car maker will spell out the oil change intervals in the owners manual.

2. Check your tire pressure.Make sure the tires on your car are set at the optimum air pressure. Most cars will have the proper air pressure listed in the owners manual as well as in the driver's door frame.

Both Harley and Montoya suggested drivers check their tire pressure at least once a month.

"A lot of people just wait until the (tire pressure monitor) light to come on," Montoya said. "That's not when you should be replacing the air in your tires. At that point, it's actually a little too late and it's an emergency situation."

Not only will maintaining proper air pressure will help optimize the car's handling and braking, but it will also save you money.

"If you let your tires run too low or too high, you're going to get abnormal wear and tires are expensive," Harley said.3. Make sure you take care of the little things. One way to extend to life your car is to take care of the little things before they escalate into the big problems, Harley told us.

For example, if a faulty oxygen sensor triggers the check engine light, replace the sensor before it caused excess wear to your car's catalytic converter.

And installing new catalytic converters is a much more expensive job.

4. Do visual inspections.Do frequent visual inspections of your car. This could be as simple as walking around your car to check for any unusual fluids, weird smells, or damage. You should also open up your hood once in a while to look for any issues that may crop up.

"Open the hood and looking around," Harley said. "You don't have to be mechanically inclined to notice that there's fluid on top of or below the engine."

"Cars are not supposed to leave puddles on the ground unless it's water from the air conditioning and that should evaporate," he added. "If you drive back in the evening and there's still a puddle on the ground you should see if you have a leak of oil or coolant."

The more mechanically inclined driver can also check for uneven brake wear which, if caught early, can save you on your next brake change.

5. Be gentle with your car when it's cold.Drive gently in the morning or when your car hasn't had a chance to heat up. Thus, avoid gunning the gas pedal first thing in the morning.

Instead, let the fluids in your car heat up before you drive more aggressively. After all, lubricants work their best when they are warm.

"You want to treat your car just like you want to be treated yourself," Harley said. "If you start your car on a 50-degree morning and you immediately floor it down the street and jam on the brakes, that's the equivalent you crawling out of bed and running out the front door to get the newspaper."

You don't have to let your car sit heat up at idle, but you still take it easy on cold days.

6. Dont drive like a mad man.Don't drive like a mad man. Aggressive and high-speed driving will diminish your fuel economy while increasing the wear and tear on your brakes, tires, and transmission.

This all equates to more expensive trips to the mechanics.7. Wash off the road salt regularly. For those who live in cold weather climates, it's important to occasionally run your car through a car wash in winter months. Not only will it look better, but it will also help mitigate the corrosive effects of road salt.

"If you're in a place where your car is coated in this white salt grime, it's a good idea to get the undercarriage pressure washed occasionally," Harley said.

Even though these days most body panels and underbody components are made of stainless steel or galvanized to combat corrosion, it's still a good idea to get rid of that build up.
