According to a release sent out by the University of Minnesota Public Safety, at approximately 3:30 p.m., camera monitors from the University's Public Safety Emergency Communications identified two suspects on camera who were seen stealing from cars in a parking lot on campus. The suspects fled in an SUV before police officers arrived at the scene.
Officers pursued the suspects, but their vehicle remained out of the sight of law enforcement when they struck two vehicles at the intersection of 5th Street and 15th Avenue, and 5th Street and 12th Avenue. There were no injuries at those intersections.
The release states the suspects then hit a car at the intersection of 5th Street and 10th Avenue, injuring two people in the car, one of whom is a University of Minnesota student. The SUV also hit a pedestrian, who is a University of Minnesota staff member. Both suspects fled the scene on foot, using the pedestrian bridge that goes over Interstate 94, according to University Police Chief Matt Clark.
One of the suspects, a man, was apprehended blocks from the previous incident, and a woman suspected to have been involved is still at large.
The three injured victims are expected to recover.
